Chocolate Butterscotch Brownies with Vanilla-Infused Alaskan Sea Salt

That’s a mouthful of a name, but these are a mouthful (ba dum bum).

Seriously though, these brownies – which actually turned out amazingly well – were really just designed as a vehicle for me to try this new Alaskan Vanilla-Infused Sea Salt.  It’s an all natural product that I picked up at the Alaska Pure Sea Salt Company in Sitka, Alaska.  They had samples for tasting, and the salt is really amazing – it still tastes like salt, but with a really fresh vanilla flavor.

To be honest, I wasn’t going to buy it initially but then I thought that was foolish.  This is a product I’ve never seen before, and it was delicious.  Plus the lady who was working there was really nice.

It’s actually pretty rare that you find something totally unique, and I realized I might not ever get a chance to buy it again.  So I brought it home and got to thinking.

Since this is mostly a vehicle to showcase the one ingredient, I kept the brownies themselves pretty simple.  Very simple, actually.  Just one bowl, a hand mixer and a dish to cook it in.

You could make this with regular salt, but I think this is better.  Waaaay more interesting and super delicious.

Ingredients

·        1 cup butter, softened to room temperature

·        2 cups sugar

·        ½ cup dark cocoa powder

·        2 t vanilla

·        4 eggs

·        1 ¼ cup flour

·        ½ t baking powder

·        1 t Alaskan Vanilla-Infused Sea Salt, separated.  But yeah…you can use regular salt if you can’t find it.

·        ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

·        ¾ cup butterscotch chips

Directions

Ok, this one is super simple and tastes like you put a TON more time into it.  Plus, if you reach out to the Alaska Pure Sea Salt Company and buy the vanilla salt you will definitely be the fanciest one on the block.

Line a 9” x 13” pan with aluminum foil and set it aside.

Put the butter, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder and ½ teaspoon of the salt into a bowl.

IMG_0579Mix with your hand mixer until well combined.  Lick the beater (after you take it out of the mixer of course).

With a wooden spoon, stir in the chocolate and butterscotch chips.

Pour the batter into your lined pan.  Smooth it out as much as you can (but don’t worry about it being flat or anything, just do what you can) and then sprinkle the remaining ½ teaspoon of the salt on top.

Bake the brownies at 350 for 25-35 minutes, until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out dry.

Move the whole tray to a wire rack to cool.

Please, please try these!!!   They are so simple but taste like you worked your ass off.
