I’m not a huge candy eater but for some reason I love Paydays. I dunno – I think the nougat is just the perfect flavor and consistency so I was looking forward to making these and they do NOT disappoint!
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted peanuts
- 1 14 oz. can, sweetened condensed milk
- 1/3 cup peanut butter
- 1 ½ t vanilla
- 1 t salt
Directions
Line a bread loaf pan with plastic wrap. Take about half the peanuts and use them to layer the bottom of the pan. Set the pan aside.
Pour the condensed milk, peanut butter, vanilla and salt into a small saucepan and turn the heat to medium low. Stir continually and cook for about 15 minutes – the consistency will get pretty thick (I got a cramp in my hand, but it was worth it!). Take the pot off the heat.
Next, take your peanut butter mixture and pour that over the peanuts. Smooth it out with a spatula to get it relatively even, then pour the remaining peanuts in a layer on top of your peanut butter mixture.
Take another sheet of plastic wrap and press in on top of the peanuts. Not too hard, just to get the peanuts to sink a little into your peanut butter mixture.
Move to the fridge for at least a half hour to cool, clean up everything while you’re waiting, then take it out of the fridge. Use the plastic wrap to lift the candy out of the pan and slice into bars!

Store whatever you don’t eat in the fridge – don’t worry, the nougat will stay nice and soft and delicious!
