Make things you don’t like. I know – it sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out. This is a trick my mom taught me and it’s especially good if you’re making multiple desserts for a party. For instance, I don’t really like orange in my desserts but a lot of people do. So if that’s you – make something with orange in it. Your guests will like it and you won’t be tempted to indulge. Don’t worry that it won’t be good – first off, it’s ok to fail. But more importantly, even if you make something that’s not really to your taste, you can usually tell if it’s a good quality. And even if you can’t, if your friends are anything like mine, they will tell you.
