When you’re making any kind of baked apple you want to use one (or a few) that hold up in the oven. Some of the best are Granny Smith, Jonagold, Braeburn and Honeycrisp. They are not the only ones, though – your best bet is to do a little research on the interwebs before you head to the store. For this I used Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. Peel and core them and dice them into small chunks. Put them in a bowl and, if you’ve used more than one type of apple, toss them so that they’re evenly distributed. Once you’re done prepping the apples, put them in a skillet and add the maple syrup, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, sugar and allspice. Turn the heat to medium and cook for about 8 or so minutes, stirring regularly, until the apples are nice and tender but still firm enough to hold their shapes. When they’re done, remove from the heat and let them cool. While the apples are cooling, you can make the whipped cream. Add the heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla to a bowl and whip until stiff peaks form. Put in the fridge until you’re ready to put the dessert together. When the apples are cooled you’re ready to put it all together! I’m going to be specific in the order I put the graham cracker and vanilla wafer crumbs into the cup, but you can do it in any order you like. Line up 4 water glasses and split the graham cracker crumbs between the four. Next, spoon in the cooked apples; we’re going to have 2 layers of apples so use only about half of it here. Next, add in the whipped cream. Then the remainder of the cooked apples and top with the vanilla wafer crumbs. Although it will depend on the size of the glasses you use, mine are on the smallish side and I got 4 delicious desserts out of it!Ingredients
